Faithful Christians have always recognized the importance of the progress of biblical history, especially as it relates to humanity’s fall into sin and God’s redemptive work. The discipline of biblical theology arose as a means to responsibly study this progress. Like systematic theology, biblical theology organizes ideas in ways that enhance our understanding of Scripture. But while systematic theology organizes its ideas according to themes, biblical theology organizes its conclusions into historical periods, or epochs. Used properly, biblical theology is a powerful and useful tool for interpreting and applying the Bible.
